LUBBOCK — The state’s High Plains region, which covers 41 counties in the Texas Panhandle and West Texas, is home to more than 11,000 wind turbines — the most in any area of the state.

Despite headwinds caused by the coronavirus pandemic, supply chain constraints, and economic uncertainty, clean energy jobs grew 5% from 2021 to 2022 in the U.S., with the industry now employing 3.2 million Americans.

Pearce Renewables said it acquired MFG Energy Services, which provides composite repair and inspection services for wind turbine blades, nacelles, and nose cones.

Terms of the deal were not shared by the companies.

Launched in 2007 and based in Gainesville, Texas, MFG Energy claims to operate the largest network of full-service composite manufacturing facilities in North America.

I remember the phone call well.

Metal-hydrogen battery manufacturer EnerVenue will stand up a pilot manufacturing line, as well as research and development operations, at a 64,000-sq. ft. facility in Fremont, California.

EnerVenue aims to offer the market an alternative to lithium-ion batteries for grid-scale energy storage to support clean power generation. Lithium-ion batteries, which currently dominate the utility-scale storage market, face sourcing challenges and safety concerns due to fire risks.

Community solar capacity in the U.S. is expected to continue its growth, increasing by 7 GWdc by 2027, according to an analysis from Wood Mackenzie.

Researchers working at the Energy Department’s Sandia National Laboratory said they developed a new type of rotary electrical contact that promises to end the need for rare earth magnets in wind turbines.

Sandia said it it ready to partner with the renewable energy industry to develop what is said would be the next generation of direct-drive wind turbines.
