Green hydrogen’s versatility offers potential answers to some of the energy transition’s most challenging questions. When produced from renewable energy sources, hydrogen could provide clean fuel for shipping, long-duration energy storage, and other areas that are difficult to decarbonize.

But factors such as scale, scope, and affordability remain daunting challenges. Can green hydrogen conquer these obstacles to become the energy transition’s secret weapon?

DELTA, Utah (AP) – The coal plant is closing. In this tiny Utah town surrounded by cattle, alfalfa fields and scrub-lined desert highways, hundreds of workers over the next few years will be laid off – casualties of environmental regulations and competition from cheaper energy sources.

Wärtsilä has signed contracts to deliver energy storage systems totaling 500 MW/2 GWh to five Clearway Energy Group solar projects in California and Hawaii.

The portfolio includes the Daggett 2 and Daggett 3 projects, which represent one of the largest co-located photovoltaic plus storage facilities in California, at 482 MWac of solar PV and 275 MWac/1.1 GWh of energy storage.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A California-based renewable energy developer announced on July 18 that it has acquired a transmission line project that will link its massive wind farms in east-central New Mexico with more populated markets across the West.

Indiana solar installers knew their customers would be worse off when new, reduced rates for surplus solar generation took effect on July 1.

But changes being ushered in by utilities go far beyond what the industry had been bracing for, say solar and consumer advocates who are now challenging regulators’ interpretation of a 2017 law that gutted net metering.

Energy is a strategic factor for economic development. Morocco is still largely dependent on energy imports, more than 90%. To reduce its energy dependence, in 2009, Morocco adopted a strategy to increase the share of renewable energies in the installed electrical power to 52% in 2030. Its strategic location allows Morocco to be an electrical hub between Europe and Africa.
