The California Energy Commission (CEC) adopted a report setting offshore wind goals that it said move the state closer to developing energy resource off the state’s coast.

The report set planning goals of 2,000-5,000 MW of offshore wind by 2030 and 25,000 MW by 2045.

David Hochschild, chair of the CEC, called the goals “ambitious yet achievable.”

Falling battery prices and the growth of variable renewable generation are driving a surge of interest in “hybrid” power plants that may combine utility-scale wind and/or solar generating capacity with co-located batteries.

While most of the current interest involves pairing photovoltaic (PV) plants with batteries, other types of hybrid or co-located plants with a range of configurations have been part of the U.S. electricity mix for decades.

The project brings a new twist to “solar+storage.”

A 500 kW community solar system has been completed on the roofs of Extra Space Storage in Neptune, New Jersey.

The project is the first of a 10-project, 6.5 MW portfolio being developed by Solar Landscape on Extra Space Storage facilities as part of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Community Solar Pilot Program.

A demonstration project in California plans to use concentrated solar power and green hydrogen to produce what its development partners said would be sustainable aviation fuels.

Dominion’s CEO termed a performance standard set by Virginia regulators as a condition for approving a 2.6 GW offshore wind project as “untenable” and suggested the utility might appeal the August 5 decision.

Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. in Canada has completed a $803.1 million (C$1.032 billion) refinancing of the non-recourse debt of its portfolio of wholly owned assets in Chile, with the issuance of $710.0 million (C$912.6 million) in green bonds maturing in 2036 and a $93.1 million (C$119.7 million) letter of credit facility.

Duke Energy said it would perform a strategic review of its commercial renewable energy business, which includes around 5 GW of wind, solar, and battery generating capacity.

A pilot program in Massachusetts aims to help speed up the interconnection process for distributed generation projects by allowing developers to make some grid upgrades themselves.

(Tue, 09 Aug 2022) Sudan and South Sudan’s oil sectors play a vital role in both economies and are closely linked; most of the oil producing assets are near or extend across their shared border. Oil production in Sudan and South Sudan declined because of continued domestic political instability in both countries following South Sudan’s secession from Sudan in 2011.
