(Tue, 12 Jul 2022) Canada is a net exporter of most energy commodities and is a significant producer of natural gas, hydroelectricity, and crude oil and other liquids. Most of Canadaâs energy exports are destined for the United States. In 2021, energy consumption in Canada, which totaled 13 quadrillion British thermal units (quads), accounted for less than 3% of total world energy consumption.
Shell has taken the final investment decision to build Holland Hydrogen I, which will be Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plant once operational in 2025.
The 200 MW electrolyzer will be constructed on the Tweede Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam and will produce up to 60,000 kg of renewable hydrogen per day.
The U.S. will lift tariffs on solar products imported from Canada, the countries announced.
As part of the agreement signed on July 8, the U.S. and Canada also committed to prohibiting imports of solar products produce with forced labor.

BERLIN (AP) — German lawmakers on July 7 approved a major package of reforms aimed at boosting the production of renewable power, as Chancellor Olaf Scholz warned that the country has for too long relied on energy supplies from Russia.
Siemens Energy and Air Liquide have announced a joint venture for the production of industrial-scale renewable hydrogen electrolyzers.
The yet-to-be-named JV with 74.9% holding by Siemens Energy and 25.1% by Air Liquide – and subject to approval by the relevant authorities – marks a major boost in the scale-up of electrolyzer production in the region and for its hydrogen economy in general.
