Schools have been one of the biggest institutional adopters of solar energy. Over 7,000 K-12 schools now use solar power, typically in the form of rooftop solar panels, which represents a 139% increase since 2014, according to the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.

(Wed, 13 Jul 2022) This Issues in Focus article presents two cases related to the availability of select tax credits and federal efficiency incentives. We analyze how extending tax credits for renewable energy and combined-heat-and-power technologies or ending the credits by 2023 could affect long-term renewable and distributed generation deployment and the mix of resources used for electricity generation.

A 30 kW array of hydrokinetic power generators that are placed in a water supply channel serving the Denver Water system in Colorado has entered service.

Equinor has acquired U.S. battery energy storage developer East Point Energy, the companies announced.

DSD Renewables developed the nine projects for the City of White Plains in Westchester County.

The portfolio is expected to generate 8,100 MWh of clean energy annually, tripling the amount of solar energy produced in Westchester County and enough to power more than 700 homes each year.

More than 400 clean energy companies are urging leaders in Congress urging them to act on legislation that would provide billions of dollars for clean energy deployment.

(Tue, 12 Jul 2022) Canada is a net exporter of most energy commodities and is a significant producer of natural gas, hydroelectricity, and crude oil and other liquids. Most of Canada’s energy exports are destined for the United States. In 2021, energy consumption in Canada, which totaled 13 quadrillion British thermal units (quads), accounted for less than 3% of total world energy consumption.

Shell has taken the final investment decision to build Holland Hydrogen I, which will be Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plant once operational in 2025.

The 200 MW electrolyzer will be constructed on the Tweede Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam and will produce up to 60,000 kg of renewable hydrogen per day.

The U.S. will lift tariffs on solar products imported from Canada, the countries announced.

As part of the agreement signed on July 8, the U.S. and Canada also committed to prohibiting imports of solar products produce with forced labor.

In a perfect world, outsourcing electronics manufacturing would be as simple as buying a fabricated part. However, the complexity of outsourcing manufacturing is rarely a perfect world scenario. The added complexity of bills of materials (BOMs) with hundreds of parts, narrow process windows, variable forecasts and supply chain constraints drive the need for a much more aligned working relationship.
