The U.S. House Appropriations Committee yesterday approved an energy and water funding bill that, as compared to fiscal year 2018, cuts energy efficiency and renewable energy programs by $243 million, and increases research and development funding for fossil fuels by $58 million.

The plant, known as the Sierra BioFuels Plant (Sierra) is considered to be the country’s first commercial-scale plant that can convert municipal solid waste feedstock, household garbage into a low-carbon, renewable transportation fuel product.
Located in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, about 20 miles east of Reno, Sierra plant will use Fulcrum’s thermochemical process to convert household garbage into low-carbon transportation fuels.

The connection agreement was also signed by the Australian Energy Market Operator.
It includes the terms and conditions for the wind farm to connect to Victoria’s transmission network.
As per the agreement, AusNet Services will build, own and operate a new 70km transmission line.
The transmission line will run south of the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm to a new 500 kilovolt (kV) terminal station and network interface.
The Toronto-based miner said that the production ramp up of Cerro Moro remains on track as planned.
Commercial production from the mine is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2018.
According to the company, the Cerro Moro mine is a high-grade gold and silver operation sourcing ore from a combination of underground and open pit mining.
The firm said that the approval from state regulator is an endorsement of another element of its plan to upgrade its power plants fleet.
Entergy will now purchase the natural gas-fired peaking unit upon completion of construction by a subsidiary of Calpine.
