Boston, MA-based National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium this week announced Round One awards in the Offshore Wind Solicitation 1.0 for offshore wind technology research and development projects.

This week, President Biden announced sweeping climate plans that include a moratorium on new federal oil and gas leases on public land; a directive that the government ramp up procurement of EVs; and addresses environmental justice issues in low-income and communities of color.

Florida Power & Light Company announced that construction has begun on the FPL Manatee Energy Storage Center, which is expected to become the world’s largest integrated solar-powered battery system, according to the company.

With hundreds of renewable projects sitting in the regional grid operator interconnection queue, developers should investigate the fast track process at Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and Southwest Power Pool (SPP) for project less than 5 MW in capacity. There are similarities and differences in both MISO and SPP fast track processes. Both processes need study deposits and provide an initial review with a customer options meeting.

A joint venture of engineering, procurement and construction firms Bechtel and Reed & Reed will build a wind power farm in coal-rich West Virginia.

Developer Clearway Energy Group selected the joint venture to lead construction on the Black Rock wind farm in Grant and Mineral counties. The Bechtel-Reed & Reed partnership will handle the project from engineering to completion.

This week, real estate developer Kimco Realty Corp. announced that it has initiated five new solar projects. Four of the projects will be at Kimco properties in the New York metropolitan region, including the company’s new headquarters in Jericho, Long Island, as well as Greenridge Plaza, Forest Avenue Shopping Center and Richmond Shopping Center, all on Staten Island. The fifth is in Massachusetts at Festival in Hyannis Shopping Center.

(Thu, 28 Jan 2021) On Tuesday, February 8, 2021, the Independent System Operator for New England (ISO-NE) will open its annual Forward Capacity Market (FCM) auction. ISO-NE uses the FCM auctions to ensure that the New England power system will have sufficient resources to meet future demand for electricity.

Utility-scale renewable energy developer Intersect Power, LLC announced that it secured $127 million in equity funding from Climate Adaptive Infrastructure, LLC and Trilantic North America In addition, the company said it has also closed on a $482 million debt facility with Generate Capital and CarVal Investors.

Hydro-Quebec has awarded an engineering contract to the Green Hydrogen product division of thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers to install an 88-MW water electrolysis plant to produce hydrogen. Previously, thyssenkrupp completed a feasibility study for the project.
