This week, real estate developer Kimco Realty Corp. announced that it has initiated five new solar projects. Four of the projects will be at Kimco properties in the New York metropolitan region, including the company’s new headquarters in Jericho, Long Island, as well as Greenridge Plaza, Forest Avenue Shopping Center and Richmond Shopping Center, all on Staten Island. The fifth is in Massachusetts at Festival in Hyannis Shopping Center.

(Thu, 28 Jan 2021) On Tuesday, February 8, 2021, the Independent System Operator for New England (ISO-NE) will open its annual Forward Capacity Market (FCM) auction. ISO-NE uses the FCM auctions to ensure that the New England power system will have sufficient resources to meet future demand for electricity.

Utility-scale renewable energy developer Intersect Power, LLC announced that it secured $127 million in equity funding from Climate Adaptive Infrastructure, LLC and Trilantic North America In addition, the company said it has also closed on a $482 million debt facility with Generate Capital and CarVal Investors.

Hydro-Quebec has awarded an engineering contract to the Green Hydrogen product division of thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers to install an 88-MW water electrolysis plant to produce hydrogen. Previously, thyssenkrupp completed a feasibility study for the project.

Corporations purchased a record of 23.7 GW of clean energy in 2020, up from 20.1GW in 2019 and 13.6GW in 2018, according to new research published by BloombergNEF (BNEF). The increase came despite a year devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic, a global recession and uncertainty about U.S. energy policy ahead of the presidential election.

The AES Corporation said today that it has commenced operations of the Alamitos battery energy storage system (BESS), which it says is one of the world’s largest battery storage systems in operation at the moment.

Last year’s cascade of positive noises coming out of Westminster led many of us to hope for a renewed ministerial focus on climate change through 2021.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is asking for public input on the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the North Alabama Utility-Scale Solar Project in Lawrence County.

In January 2019, TVA announced that it holds a two-year purchase option on 3,000 acres in Lawrence County to study the feasibility of building a large solar farm in order to continue reducing its carbon footprint.  

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Geothermal Technologies Office today announced the launch of the Spring 2021 Geothermal Collegiate Competition, managed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
