NEW YORK, Jan 19 (Reuters) - U.S. crude inventories rose
unexpectedly last week as refineries sharply slowed production,
while gasoline stocks soared amid weak demand, the Energy
Information Administration said on Thursday.

WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Rick Perry, President-elect
Donald Trump's pick to run the U.S. Energy Department, said
during his Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday that global
warming caused by humans is real, but that efforts to combat it
should not cost American jobs.

Nyadi Hydropower Ltd. and Zhejiang Hydropower Construction & Installation Company Ltd. of China signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on Jan. 16 for the 30-MW Nyadi hydropower project, according to local published reports.  

NEW DELHI, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Overseas exporters chartering
foreign vessels to supply goods to India will have to pay a
service tax on freight from Sunday, a government notification
said.

ISLAMABAD, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Commodity trader Gunvor has
won a major tender to supply about 60 liquefied natural gas
(LNG) shipments to Pakistan over a five year period while
Italy's Eni will supply the country with LNG over a 15-year
period, a Pakistani energy official told Reuters.

Jan 19 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Thursday
rejected former Massey Energy Co Chief Executive Officer Donald
Blankenship's bid to overturn his conviction and one-year prison
sentence related to his role in a 2010 West Virginia mine
explosion that killed 29 workers.

FRANKFURT, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Germany connected 818
megawatts (MW) of newly built offshore wind capacity to power
networks last year, wind energy industry group BWE said on
Thursday, less than in 2015 but still leaving the industry on
course to beat government targets for 2020.

LONDON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Two groups of Church of England
advisers have cautiously endorsed fracking for shale gas in the
United Kingdom provided it does not conflict with climate change
policy and robust regulations are put in place.

DUBAI, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's crude oil exports
in November rose to 8.258 million barrels per day (bpd) from
7.636 million bpd in October, official data showed on Thursday.
