Pacific Gas & Electric has awarded power purchase agreements to two forest-based biomass gasification plants in California. Developer Phoenix Energy yesterday said that contracts for the two projects — North Fork Community Power in North Fork, Calif., and Blue Mountain Electric Company in Willseyville, Calif. — were awarded under the state’s Bioenergy Feed-in Tariff Program.

Meeting in the state capital of Adelaide yesterday, the Board of ZEN Energy approved a strategic plan to establish 1 GW of additional dispatchable renewable generation assets. The assests will support long-term electricity supply contracts with South Australia’s large industrial users to provide access to lower cost, reliable and low emission energy.

Solar entrepreneur Bill Gross, the CEO of Edisun Microgrids, has successfully penetrated the commercial and industrial solar market segment with dual-axis trackers, promising a 30 percent performance boost for a cost increase of only 10 percent compared with a standard fixed-tilt PV installation, at optimal U.S. locations, he says.

Since unveiling its solar roof tile designs a year ago, Tesla has been testing the product, which CEO Elon Musk says is going to be a significant part of the company’s business down the road.

(Thu, 02 Nov 2017) The South China Sea is a major route for liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, and in 2016, almost 40% of global LNG trade, or about 4.7 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), passed through the South China Sea

(Thu, 02 Nov 2017) The U.S. does not have a federally mandated building energy code. Instead, states or local governments can choose whether to adopt one of the national model energy codes or a modified version of the model code. This report estimates state adoption and compliance rates for commercial and residential model building energy codes.

Two years after the world joined together to forge the Paris Agreement on climate change, representatives from around the globe will convene in Bonn, Germany, on Nov. 6 for the next round of United Nations talks. The summit marks a critical stepping stone for global climate action.

Over the past few months we’ve experienced a solar eclipse, several devastating hurricanes, another under-construction nuclear plant shutdown, and a backwards-looking Department of Energy Grid Reliability study.

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) last week said that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office has allocated $500,000 in matching funds to step up joint research into solar power forecasting.

Many people with their finger on the pulse of the U.S. energy industry read the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) on grid resiliency from Energy Secretary Rick Perry and wondered why energy storage didn’t merit more attention. Tesla, in its comments to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on the NOPR, made its surprise about the omission very clear.
