Over the summer about 33 customers in Pacific Gas and Electric’s (PG&E’s) territory started a new journey with their utility. PG&E is hoping that through this and other pilot projects, it will learn how responsive batteries, solar PV and smart inverters are when they receive a signal from the utility.

As distributed energy resources (DERs) including solar PV and batteries begin to proliferate throughout the world, the services they could provide if coupled with the right technology go beyond simple energy generation and storage.

Congressman Jodey Arrington, a republican member of congress from Texas, recently received the American Wind Energy Association’s “U.S. Wind Champion Award” at Southern Power’s Bethel Wind Farm. AWEA hasn’t given out the award in more than five years.

(Wed, 08 Nov 2017) EIA’s International Energy Outlook 2017 (IEO2017) projects that global nuclear capacity will grow at an average annual rate of 1.6% from 2016 through 2040, led predominantly by countries outside of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). EIA expects China to continue leading world nuclear growth, followed by India.

Expro, an oilfield services company has bagged a two year contract to provide well testing services for petrochemical company Ineos.

A common element of the energy storage discussion is that the growth of storage projects appears unstoppable, while their cost will continue dropping. So, has the time arrived to start developing African energy storage projects and what are the current opportunities and barriers to overcome?

If the U.S. can deploy 35 GW of new energy storage by 2025, the Energy Storage Association (ESA) estimates that the return in operational savings from those deployments could surpass $4 billion.

Freestone Resources and Dynamis Energy have signed a merger agreement under which Freestone and Dynamis will combine their businesses in an all-stock deal.

(Tue, 07 Nov 2017) This report analyzes the modeling of distributed generation (DG) in the National Energy Model System (NEMS). EIA models DG that is connected to the electric grid and currently assumes generation offsets retail sales. This report analyzes the factors affecting projected residential and non-residential DG in the Annual Energy Outlook 2017.
