Clean energy advocates rejoiced as legislation was passed today in New Jersey that will support the development of a massive amount of renewable energy, specifically community solar, energy storage, offshore wind and energy efficiency. The bill also props up nuclear power in the state with the establishment of zero-emission certificates.

Massachusetts and Rhode Island today selected two offshore wind projects for development, securing a total of 1.2 GW of offshore generating capacity along the East Coast.

Accelerating the roll-out of EV charging infrastructure is widely seen as a key step towards furthering the widespread advent of electric transportation but isn’t without challenges. To address some of these challenges, Nidec Industrial Solutions, has unveiled a battery-based, ultra-fast charger (UFC) for electric vehicles (EVs).

“There is no technical or economic barrier to transitioning the entire world to 100 percent clean, renewable energy with a stable electric grid at low cost,” said Mark Z. Jacobson with Stanford University. This is the key finding of research completed and published in early 2018.

Virginia is taking the next step in growing the infrastructure necessary to support the offshore wind supply chain with the release of an RFP seeking an expert to develop a plan to strengthen the state’s existing assets.

The vanadium redox flow battery has been integrated the redox with a wind turbine, solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and a diesel generator at the test site.
Featuring 120kW energy output and storage capacity of 400kWh, the redox supplements lithium-ion batteries that have been in use at La Plana for about two years.

The move follows approval of a multi-party settlement by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to the firm.
As part of the GSMP II program, PSE&G will replace the old gas pipes to support a safe, clean and reliable gas system with an investment of $1.875bn.
Expected to create 3,200 jobs, the work involves replacing 875 miles of aging cast iron and unprotected steel gas pipes with strong, durable plastic piping.

The increased equity investment of the Texas-based energy-focused private equity firm will come from Tailwater Energy Fund III (EF-III) and EF-III limited partner co-investors, said Silver Creek Midstream.
The crude oil gathering system to be owned 100% by Silver Creek Midstream will span across the Converse, Campbell, Johnson and Natrona Counties in Wyoming.

PGE shared the RFP in draft form with potential bidders and stakeholders earlier this year, and on May 16 received final Oregon Public Utility Commission sign-off to move forward with the competitive bidding process. After final adjustments to reflect commission direction, the RFP is now open for bids.
PGE president and CEO Maria Pope said: “We are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.

JPS, which serves more than 600,000 customers, will extend its existing Itron Gen 5 network to be able to support up to 670,000 electric meters, which will help the utility improve customer service, drive grid reliability and enable revenue realization.
This project will build on JPS’ previous deployments with Itron on the island, which included 51,000 electric meters on Itron’s smart grid network deployed in 2016 and 2017, and the rollout of 35,000 smart streetlights in 2017.
