Two California solar projects have the green light from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
The Arica and Victory Pass solar projects are located on federally owned land in Riverside County east of Los Angeles. Combined they could generate up to 465 MW of power and up to 400 MW of battery storage.
Lightsource bp closed on a $376 million multi-project financing package and mobilized construction on its 293 MWdc Sun Mountain solar project in Pueblo, Colorado, and its 173 MW Bellflower Solar project in Indiana.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced another $100 million for projects with new technologies to help reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and modernize the grid.
The funding comes from the DOE’s program — Seeding Critical Advances for Leading Energy technologies with Untapped Potential (SCALEUP). Projects selected for funding must be considered feasible for widespread commercialization, demonstrate a path to deployment and be attractive to private investment.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Sandia National Laboratories, along with the Australian Solar Thermal Research Institute, launched a Heliostat Consortium (HelioCon), an international effort to drive down the cost of heliostats.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — U.S. officials announced approval December 21 of two solar projects in California and moved to open up public lands in three other Western states to potential solar development, as part of the Biden administration’s effort to counter climate change by shifting from fossil fuels.
An energy storage system set to be the largest ever built in the Netherlands is to be co-located with wind and solar assets in a microgrid at Wageningen University & Research test center in Lelystad.
The project will store the equivalent of the annual energy consumption of more than 9000 households a year and will be the first large-scale energy storage project based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry in Europe.
Lockheed Martin said it will invest $9 million toward the construction of a Canadian solar and storage project, in conjunction with $10 million from the Government of Alberta.
TC Energy’s Saddlebrook Solar + Storage Project includes a solar generating facility that is expected to provide up to 102.5 MW of power, or enough electricity to power around 30,000 homes. The project will feature utility-scale storage with an expected output capacity of 6.5 MW/40 MWh.
Dominion Energy signed a contract with Siemens Gamersa Renewable Energy to supply 176 wind turbines for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project (CVOW).
The 2.6 GW project is the largest offshore wind farm currently under development in the United States. Once finished in 2026, CVOW would generate enough energy to power 660,000 homes.
Massachusetts awarded bids to two offshore wind projects, which are expected to generate a combined 1600 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
The projects include a 1200 MW proposal from Vineyard Wind and a 400 MW proposal from Mayflower Wind. That brings the total offshore wind capacity purchased by the state to 3200 MW, or enough to power 1.6 million homes, Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration said.
