The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced another $100 million for projects with new technologies to help reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and modernize the grid.
The funding comes from the DOE’s program — Seeding Critical Advances for Leading Energy technologies with Untapped Potential (SCALEUP). Projects selected for funding must be considered feasible for widespread commercialization, demonstrate a path to deployment and be attractive to private investment.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Sandia National Laboratories, along with the Australian Solar Thermal Research Institute, launched a Heliostat Consortium (HelioCon), an international effort to drive down the cost of heliostats.

(AP) — U.S. officials announced approval December 21 of two solar projects in California and moved to open up public lands in three other Western states to potential solar development, as part of the Biden administration’s effort to counter climate change by shifting from fossil fuels.
