Masdar has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kyrgyz Republic’s Ministry of Energy to explore the development of renewable energy opportunities in Kyrgyzstan and support the country’s clean energy objectives.

Under the terms of the MOU, Masdar will explore the development of and investment in ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV), floating solar PV and hydropower projects, with a potential capacity of up to 1 GW. The specific projects to be developed were not disclosed.

Wisconsin officials released the state's first-ever clean energy plan, which is billed as putting the Badger State on the path to achieving the carbon reduction goals of the Paris Agreement, and reaching 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050.

Los Angeles once again leads U.S. cities in total installed solar capacity, while Honolulu, Hawaii ranks highest for solar capacity per capita, according to a new report.

Three leading Canadian energy companies have announced a plan to develop 1,200 MW of wind projects in Québec.

The partners include hydropower and transmission builder Hydro-Québec; Énergir, the largest natural gas distributor in Québec and parent company of Green Mountain Power in Vermont; and Boralex, an onshore wind power developer with projects in Canada, France, U.S., and U.K.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A 182.5-MW energy storage system in Northern California that was designed and constructed in a partnership between Tesla and Pacific Gas and Electric Company is now operational, the utility announced April 18.

A hybrid solar-plus-storage microgrid will replace some of the power generated by diesel in a remote community above the Arctic Circle in Alaska.

The microgrid features a 225kW solar array and a 375 kW/384 kWh lithium-ion battery system that serve the energy needs for Shungnak, a village of fewer than 300 people.

RICHLAND, Wash.—Scientists have created a battery designed for the electric grid that locks in energy for months without losing much storage capacity.

The development of the “freeze-thaw battery,” which freezes its energy for use later, is a step toward batteries that can be used for seasonal storage: saving energy in one season, such as the spring, and spending it in another, like autumn.

Vistra said it completed a 65 MWdc/50 MWac solar project at the Brightside Solar Facility, which is now online in Southeast Texas.

FERC should not get carried away by MISO’s multiple stakeholder iterations to put together the Order 2222 compliance proposal. No other ISO has proposed a 2030 implementation date and the reasons for a longer lead time are not unique to MISO.

As the U.S. works to limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy demand continues to increase. Developers and utilities continue to increase renewable energy, including solar generation, in the national energy mix to meet the demand.
