Minnesota-based ALLETE Inc. said it closed on its previously announced acquisition of Maryland-based New Energy Equity for around $165.5 million.

New Energy Equity has completed more than 250 distributed solar projects across the nation totaling more than 330 MW, according to a statement. The company has a development pipeline of about 2 GW across 26 states over the next three years.

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) said a new–albeit brief–record was set on April 3 when 97.6% of the energy on the statewide grid came from renewable energy resources.

I’m sympathetic to U.S. solar module manufacturers who are tired of competing against unfairly subsidized Chinese panels. The fact that the Chinese government supports their module manufacturing with enormous governmental investments while our own manufacturers have to beg and plead with their own government for help must be maddening.

Researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory reported that the amount of new electric capacity in interconnection review queues nationally is “growing dramatically,” with more than 1,400 GW of total generation and storage capacity seeking connection to the grid.

A growing imbalance between power purchase agreement supply and demand, along with “skyrocketing” development costs, lifted PPA prices 9.7% during the first quarter of 2022 to nearly $40 per MWh, according to LevelTen’s Q1 PPA Price Index report. 

The firm said that year-over-year, that represents a 28.5% increase, which it called “astounding.”
