WASHINGTON (AP) — Continuing its push to dramatically boost sales of electric vehicles and support renewable energy sources with storage on the grid, the Biden administration on Monday announced $3.1 billion in funding to U.S. companies that make and recycle lithium-ion batteries.

To achieve our nation’s clean energy and carbon reduction goals, we will need to deploy much more solar power. That includes projects of all sizes and in all market segments. We need solar on rooftops and parking lots. We need utility-scale solar plants. And we need to step up deployment in a crucial but underserved market segment, community solar.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs — chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi — has approved the investment of INR45.26 billion ($590.8 million) for construction of the 540 MW Kwar Hydro Electric Project on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Miami-based Atlas Renewable Energy, a developer of solar projects in Latin America, is expanding into the wind market.
Atlas said it entered into its first long-term wind power purchase agreement, contracting with Enel for 1.3 TWh per year to be generated by a 417 MW project portfolio in Chile.
As wind turbines get taller, logistical challenges from transportation and installation grow, too.
