Last quarter was a tough one for the wind industry.

The U.S. connected 945 MW of new wind capacity from April to June. It was the lowest level since the third quarter of 2018 and a 77% drop from the same period in 2021 when 4,098 MW of wind capacity came online.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has reportedly delayed a preliminary decision on an anti-dumping and countervailing duties petition (AD/CVD) that rocked the industry earlier this year.

Renewable energy company SSE Renewables, together with TotalEnergies, has announced first power generation from the Seagreen offshore wind farm, 27km off the coast of Angus in Scotland.

According to SSE Renewables, the first of 114 Vestas turbines was commissioned and connected to the grid this week.

If consumers are willing to purchase and install solar energy on their homes and they are also willing to purchase and install batteries so they can continue using that solar energy at night when the sun goes down, could those same batteries be used by the electric utility as a grid asset? In Utah and Idaho, the answer to that question is yes.

SPI Energy Co. said it signed a letter of intent to secure a 1.5 GW solar wafer manufacturing equipment.

Neither the equipment provider nor the dollar value of the deal was disclosed.

The company is targeting delivery and production of the solar wafers in the U.S. by 2023. It said it also plans to increase its solar wafer manufacturing capacity to 3 GW by 2024.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced $40 million in funding to advance the development and deployment of clean hydrogen technologies. In a related move, DOE also launched a $20 million university research consortium to help states and Tribal communities implement grid resilience programs and achieve decarbonization goals.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A ratepayer protection that state regulators included in a recent order approving Dominion Energy Virginia’s application to build and recover the costs of a massive offshore wind farm would force the utility to scrap the project, Dominion said in a filing this week.
