Energy Update

It’s no secret that the U.S. electricity generation system is desperately in need of reliable energy storage to back up the vast amount of intermittent renewable resources being added. It’s also a fact that pumped storage hydropower is the single largest source of this backup storage, at well over 90% of total available utility-scale energy storage.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to help guide the implementation of $335 million in investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for lithium-ion battery recycling programs.
(Tue, 30 Aug 2022) These maps show the locations and types of production of the horizontal oil- and natural gas-producing wells installed in the Permian Basin for each consecutive year starting in 2010 through 2021.
LG Energy Solution and Honda Motor Co. said they plan to invest $4.4 billion to set up U.S. manufacturing to jointly produce lithium-ion batteries to power Honda and Acura EV models for the North American market.
The partners aim to have an annual production capacity at the plant of around 40 GWh.

The PGA Tour Championship tournament said it swapped diesel with renewable fuels for all onsite generation to power the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
Renewable fuels are often produced from a combination of previously used materials, such as combining waste and residues with renewable and vegetable oils.
PowerSecure, a Southern Company subsidiary, provided the renewable fuel.
