Toyota’s fuel cells technology is to form the basis for a power generation research program as the DOE seeks to advance the development of clean hydrogen.
The auto manufacturer’s North American division is collaborating with the DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to build, install and evaluate a 1MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell power generation system at NREL’s Flatirons Campus in Arvada, Colorado.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The operator of Montana’s Colstrip coal-fired power plant said it was buying out one of the site’s co-owners and plans to construct a wind farm nearby that would generate 600 MW of electricity.
Talen Energy Supply would acquire Puget Sound Energy’s 25% share of Colstrip’s two remaining coal-fired units under the deal. The units combined generate about 1,480 megawatts of electricity.
Talen currently has a 30% share of one of the units.

As the growing season winds down at most New England farms, it’s only just gearing up at Golden Thread Farm, in Stowe, Vermont.
The plants that fill the farm’s two plastic-covered high tunnels are just beginning to come out of their dormancy. Come October, they will bloom into purple crocuses with thread-like stigmas that will soon after be hand-harvested for sale as saffron.
The state of Texas is in an energy transition. Some prefer to call it an expansion, but make no mistake, it’s happening and we’re in it.
We can try to hold it back, but it would be like trying to hold back the tide. We’ll lose.
New York awarded $16.6 million in funding for five long-duration energy storage projects and made another $17 million available for projects that advance development of long-duration energy storage technologies, including hydrogen.
The state’s larger goal is to install 3,000 MW of energy storage by 2030 to help integrate renewables. New York wants to eventually develop 6,000 MW.
As a power crunch precipitated by an extended heat wave eased, the California Solar and Storage Association (CALSSA) said that the state had more than 80,000 customer-sited batteries connected to the electric grid capable of providing 900 MW of solar power.
Iberdrola, one of the world's largest clean energy developers and asset owners, has committed more than $3 billion to develop clean energy projects in Australia.
Iberdrola CEO Ignacio Galán said the investment will deliver new renewable energy capacity, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects, as well as transmission networks.
