A handful of federal agencies have launched actions intended to develop new floating offshore wind platforms.

Clēnera said it closed on construction and tax equity financing for the 105 MW Apex Solar project in Beaverhead County, Montana.

It would be one of the state’s largest solar arrays when it comes online, which is expected in the second quarter of 2023.

Energy will flow to NorthWestern Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement. Renewable Energy Credits would be sold separately. Following the end of the PPA, the facility could operate as a merchant facility.

Solar tracker system provider FTC Solar said it is launching a module in portrait (1P) product known as Pioneer.

The Austin, Texas-based company said its new tracker can provide anywhere from an 18%-36% pile count reduction per megawatt when compared with other products. It said its design can enable up to 5% greater energy output for the same site compared to other products.

The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., has officially dedicated its 2.5 MW small hydropower plant on the St. Joseph River.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was held in 2019. Work concluded and the facility was commissioned in May 2022.

Done correctly, and with enough of it, energy storage could be the hero of many grids as the energy transition drives the adoption of more variable resources powered by the wind and the sun. Grid operators stress how important it is for dispatchable generation to help keep the grid in balance when other forms of generation ramp up and down quickly in response to the elements.

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) said it budgeted $1 million for its 2023 Low Income Solar Grant Program, which aims to extend solar energy to low-income households.

MEA said it anticipates awarding at least five, $200,000 grants to non-profit organizations and local governments that received an earlier award from MEA’s FY18 – FY23 Low-to-Moderate Income Energy Efficiency Grant Program.

A consortium that includes Meta, Broad Reach Power, and REsurety has formed with a goal to maximize the greenhouse gas reduction potential of energy storage technologies.

Charging provider TeraWatt Infrastructure said it lined up more than $1 billion of institutional capital to support the buildout of its fleet-focused electric vehicle charging operations.

Funds managed by Vision Ridge Partners invested alongside existing investors Keyframe Capital and Cyrus Capital, both of which increased their commitments.

Rhode Island officials have broken ground on an offshore wind port project that will create a hub for the industry's growth in the Northeast.
