Solar supply chain constraints, long permitting cycles for commercial projects, and continued delays in finalizing major utility contracts are clouding the near-term outlook for solar EPC company iSun.

The company reported a third quarter net loss of -$4.9 million, or -$0.36 per share. That compared with a net loss of -$0.7 million, or -$0.08 per share a year earlier.

The Department of Energy is making nearly $350 million available for emerging long-duration energy storage (LDES) demonstration projects capable of delivering electricity for 10 to 24 hours or longer.

Funded in part by the 2021 infrastructure law, the funding aims to advance new renewable energy technologies, make it easier for customers and communities to more effectively integrate grid storage, boost grid resilience, and expand U.S. leadership in energy storage.

A Massachusetts incentive program for projects that blend solar energy and agricultural production shows signs of finally gaining momentum after a slow rollout that has at times frustrated solar developers and farmers alike.

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will explore repurposing a closed coal ash site at the Shawnee power plant into for utility-scale solar.

The $216 million pilot program was approved by TVA’s board of directors late last week and is pending environmental and regulatory approvals.

More than 1,000 shipments of solar energy components worth hundreds of millions of dollars have been detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents since June, according to federal customs officials and industry sources based on reporting from the Reuters news agency.

Norway-based FREYR Battery said it acquired a site in Coweta County, Georgia, for its planned $1.7 billion Giga America battery plant. The company said it plans to launch detailed project engineering in the coming months.

The first phase is planned to be a cell production module with around 34 GWh of capacity, based on the next-generation of 24M’s U.S.-based SemiSolid production platform.

Valmont Industries said it will sell its offshore wind business to Euro Steel, a Denmark-based supplier of steel products to the European wind market.

The sale comes as Nebraska-based Valmont focuses on its solar energy business, which it said offers the highest potential for “global growth,m scalability and value creation.”

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is partnering with utilities on four hydrogen demonstration projects at U.S. nuclear power plants.

Hydrogen would be produced at the nuclear plants through high- or low-temperature electrolysis, a process of splitting water into pure hydrogen and oxygen. High-temperature electrolyzers use both heat and electricity to split water and are more efficient.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A research team led by Oregon State University is planning to develop a new rechargeable battery that could reduce the need for environmentally destructive mining of rare minerals like nickel and lithium and accelerate the clean energy transition.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California regulators on Nov. 10 proposed changes to the state’s residential solar market designed to encourage more at-home battery systems that can help the electrical grid rely less on fossil fuels in the evenings, especially during heat waves.
