First Solar said it plans to build its $1.1 billion, 3.5 GWdc factory in Alabama, its fourth U.S. photovoltaic (PV) solar module manufacturing facility.

The new factory is part of a previously announced investment in scaling First Solar’s American manufacturing footprint to more than 10 GWdc by 2025.

When someone offers up a solution, they should—at the very least—know what problem they’re trying to solve.

You might assume that, in “solving” the issue of Texas’ ERCOT electricity market, the Public Utility Commission of Texas is focused on solving the reliability problems that led to days of blackouts and hundreds of deaths during Winter Storm Uri.

If you did, you’d be wrong.

General Motor’s recent announcement of its new division, GM Energy, which includes bi-directional charging, vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications, stationary storage, solar products, software applications, cloud management tools, microgrid solutions, hydrogen fuel cells and more, indicated a full commitment to an electric vehicle future by GM.

(Thu, 17 Nov 2022) Iran holds some of the world’s largest oil and natural gas reserves, but crude oil production has fallen since 2017 and natural gas production growth remains limited because of international sanctions and underinvestment. Iran’s crude oil production reached a 30-year low in 2020 as a result of sanctions and the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and output rose slightly in 2021 because global demand increased.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency reached settlement agreements with four separate solar farm owners in three states to resolve alleged Clean Water Act violations.

The U.S. solar industry is urging the Department of Commerce to squash a tariff case ahead of a crucial deadline.

The process for connecting solar arrays to Xcel Energy’s grid continues to frustrate installers in Minnesota despite recent changes meant to reduce delays.

“I’m still hearing about it from our members a lot,” Logan O’Grady, executive director of the Minnesota Solar Energy Industries Association, said of the wait times companies face before interconnection approvals. “It’s still bad.”

Oscilla Power’s Triton grid-scale ocean wave energy converter (WEC) was named one of TIME’s Best Inventions for 2022.

Estimates are that the total marine energy resource in the U.S. is about 2,300 TWh per year. Importantly, wave energy can help balance the variability of solar and wind and can enable CO2 emissions from power generation to be reduced to less than half their predicted 2050 levels, according to a release.

(Wed, 16 Nov 2022) Natural gas production grew significantly in the Eastern Mediterranean after major offshore discoveries in Egypt and Israel began commercial operations in the 2010s. Cyprus’s natural gas finds are still in the development phase and could significantly increase regional growth once commercial production begins. Development of midstream infrastructure for natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean is still emerging.
