Dec 22 (Reuters) - Australian shares closed higher on
Thursday, powered by financial stocks, as investors kept an eye
out for U.S. economic data expected later in the day for further
cues.

BEIJING, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Five districts in Beijing have
announced plans to cap or lower their population in the next few
years, local media reported on Wednesday, as the Chinese capital
bids to tackle chronic pollution and congestion.

SYDNEY, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Fortescue Metals Group
secured 42 mining and exploration leases in the world's biggest
iron ore precinct last financial year ahead of competitors being
