LONDON, Dec 22 (Reuters) - British shares retreated on
Thursday, slipping from a 2-month high hit in the previous
session as mining stocks tracked copper prices lower.

China dismisses Taiwan "dollar diplomacy" claims over Sao Tome

BEIJING, Dec 22 (Reuters) - China on Thursday dismissed
accusations from Taiwan that it engaged in "dollar diplomacy" to
get Sao Tome and Principe to ditch ties with the self-ruled
island, saying a petty Taiwan was besmirching China's good name.

Chinese court jails former coal group chiefs for bribery

BEIJING, Dec 22 (Reuters) - A Chinese court has jailed two
former chiefs of state-owned Shanxi Coking Coal Group
for bribery, the court said on Thursday, the latest
in a series of company chiefs brought down by China's crackdown
on corruption.

China stocks drift as tight liquidity offsets gains for state firms

SHANGHAI, Dec 22 (Reuters) - China's main stock indexes
barely moved on Thursday, as strength in shares of state-owned
