Republicans act to curb U.S. regulation; Democrats poised for fight

WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Republicans lawmakers on
Thursday pressed ahead in trying to strip down U.S. regulations,
with the House of Representatives passing a bill that requires
Congressional approval of major rulemakings that could affect
areas ranging from the environment to education.

Oil steady after gains on Saudi output cuts

TOKYO, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Oil prices were little changed on
Friday after gaining nearly 1 percent the day before on news
that Saudi Arabia had cut production to meet OPEC's agreement to
reduce output.

Chad shuts border with Libya, deploys troops amid security concerns

N'DJAMENA, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Chad, a key ally of the West in
the fight against Islamist militants in West Africa, said on
Thursday it has closed its long border with Libya and will
deploy troops to the area in an effort to prevent the influx of
militant fighters fleeing conflict in its war-torn northern
neighbour.

RPT-China's Iran oil imports to hit record on new production - sources

BEIJING Jan 5 (Reuters) - China's Iranian crude oil imports
may rise to a record this year as state-owned oil firms lift
more crude through their upstream investments while extending
their current supply contracts, senior industry and trading
sources said.

UPDATE 1-Brazil's Petrobras raises diesel prices by an average 6.1 pct

SAO PAULO, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Brazilian state-controlled oil
company Petróleo Brasileiro SA increased diesel
prices at refineries by 6.1 percent on average with immediate
effect, citing higher oil prices and a stronger real currency.

Is More Inspection Needed for Older Wind Turbines?

on Thursday blasted the Federal Reserve's regulatory work and
called on the central bank to scrap a proposal to limit Wall
Street's energy bets and commodities investments.
