Jan 6 (Reuters) - British engineering company Fenner Plc
said on Friday it expected the current full-year
results to be "comfortably above" its expectations as order
intake and customer enquiries improved.

U.S. gasoline prices in 2016 were the lowest since 2004

(Fri, 06 Jan 2017) U.S. regular retail gasoline prices averaged $2.14 per gallon (gal) in 2016, 29 cents/gal (12%) less than in 2015 and the lowest annual average price since 2004. Lower crude oil prices in 2015 were the main cause of lower gasoline prices. In 9 of the 10 cities for which EIA collects weekly retail price data, gasoline prices did not exceed $3.00/gal.

Hong Kong stocks set for best week in 4 months; China shares slide

SHANGHAI, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Hong Kong stocks extended
yesterday's sharp gains on Friday morning, set to have their
best week in four months, as weakness in the U.S. currency and
low treasury yields helped ease fears of capital outflow from
emerging markets.

Charcoal becomes first Cuban export to United States in half a century

HAVANA, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Cuba announced a landmark deal on
Thursday to sell charcoal to a U.S. company, the first legal
Cuban export to the United States in five decades, as part of
the fragile rapprochement between the former Cold War foes.

Republicans act to curb U.S. regulation; Democrats poised for fight

WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Republicans lawmakers on
Thursday pressed ahead in trying to strip down U.S. regulations,
with the House of Representatives passing a bill that requires
Congressional approval of major rulemakings that could affect
areas ranging from the environment to education.

Oil steady after gains on Saudi output cuts

TOKYO, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Oil prices were little changed on
Friday after gaining nearly 1 percent the day before on news
that Saudi Arabia had cut production to meet OPEC's agreement to
reduce output.

Chad shuts border with Libya, deploys troops amid security concerns

N'DJAMENA, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Chad, a key ally of the West in
the fight against Islamist militants in West Africa, said on
Thursday it has closed its long border with Libya and will
deploy troops to the area in an effort to prevent the influx of
militant fighters fleeing conflict in its war-torn northern
neighbour.
