An Oregon proposal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by producing green hydrogen gas and blending it into natural gas for consumers in Eugene could come with record costs.
If approved, about 2,500 customers of NW Natural, the state’s largest natural gas utility, would begin receiving natural gas with 5% hydrogen gas by early 2024.
HQI US Holding LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, agreed to acquire Great River Hydro LLC, owner of 13 hydroelectric power stations in the U.S. states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Great River Hydro was offered for sale by companies affiliated with ArcLight Capital Partners, LLC. The acquisition cost is around $2 billion.
The focus is shifting from wind to solar at Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). This shift means MISO must guide solar asset owners, who could be the majority of new market participants in the next 3-5 years. MISO is moving from an annual capacity auction to seasonal auctions starting next April. All these changes are too much for solar developers. Hence they need a crash course in MISO capacity and energy market concepts.
Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and its portfolio company Primergy Solar sold a minority equity stake in the $1.2 billion Gemini Solar + Storage project near Las Vegas to APG, a large pension asset managers based in the Netherlands.
APG agreed to acquire a 49% equity ownership on behalf of its pension fund client ABP. Financial terms were not disclosed.
A virtual power plant operated by Sunrun contributed more than 1.8 GWh to the New England grid this summer.
