For the first time, global demand for each of the fossil fuels shows a peak across all World Energy Outlook scenarios, with Russian exports, in particular, falling significantly as the world energy order is reshaped.

This is one of the key findings in the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) World Energy Outlook 2022 report (WEO), released amidst what has been hailed as the first truly global energy crisis.

Automaker General Motors pushed back by six months its goal of delivering 400,000 electric vehicles in North America by the end of 2023. GM CEO Mary Barra said during a quarterly earnings call that battery production cannot be ramped up as quickly as planned.

Industrial giant GE reported a bumpy third quarter across its renewable energy and power business segments.

The company’s onshore wind turbine revenues came in at $2.445 billion for the quarter, which ended September 30. That was down from $3.047 billion for the same quarter a year earlier.

For the first nine months of the year, onshore wind turbine revenue was $6.403 billion. That was down from $8.048 billion a year earlier.

A new program has been announced by Google and C40, a global network of mayors taking action to confront the climate and energy crisis, to explore and integrate the concept of 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE).

Pursuing 24/7 CFE means aiming to meet every kilowatt-hour of electricity consumption with carbon-free sources, every hour of every day, every day of the year.

Boston-based Swift Current Energy reached a supply agreement with First Solar for 2 GW of the Arizona-based manufacturer's thin film solar modules in 2025 and 2026.

Swift Current Energy CEO Eric Lammers said the deal provides the "certainty of supply" needed to execute his company's growing project pipeline.

Researchers at Tufts University and the University of Illinois are investigating opportunities to substitute concrete for steel in wind tower and foundation designs.

The use of concrete support structures for offshore wind turbines offers many potential advantages over towers comprised of only steel, including greater durability, a longer lifespan, increased local labor opportunities, and much quieter installations.

Maine is finalizing rules for a program that will soon let commercial property owners pay for clean energy upgrades through their property tax bills.

The U.S. hydropower industry faces an oncoming wave of retirements, and a new, diverse workforce is critical to the industry’s ability to sustain operations and grow to support a carbon-free power grid by 2035 and a net-zero-emissions economy by 2050, according to a new report.

In addition, more hydropower-focused educational and training opportunities are needed to address recruitment and hiring challenges.
