Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and Swell Energy announced an agreement for Swell to act as the aggregator for a virtual power plant initiative called My Energy Optimizer Partner+.
The initial effort is intended to bring 20 MWh and 10 MW of renewable capacity to SMUD by recruiting, installing and aggregating capacity from customers’ battery storage systems located in the utility’s service area in California’s capital city.
Form Energy will build its first iron-air battery manufacturing facility in West Virginia, the company and state officials announced.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico plans to ask U.S. President Joe Biden for as much as $48 billion in financing for solar projects, Foreign Relations Secretary Marcel Ebrard said Dec. 20.
Ebrard said the request will be presented to Biden at the upcoming Jan. 9-10 meeting of U.S., Canadian and Mexican leaders in Mexico City.
The U.S. Postal Service said it now expects to acquire at least 66,000 battery electric delivery vehicles as part of its 106,000 vehicle acquisition plan for deliveries between now and 2028.
The vehicles are expected to begin to replace the Postal Service’s aging delivery fleet of more than 220,000 vehicles.
The Postal Service said it anticipates at least 60,000 Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV), of which at least 75% (45,000) will be battery electric.

One of India’s largest renewable energy firms, Renew Power, will be among the corporations big and small hoping for a piece of a $2.6 billion government scheme that encourages the domestic manufacturing of components required to produce solar energy. It’s the biggest such incentive in India’s history.
Developers added 501 MW of new wind power capacity in the U.S. from July to September, marking one of the slowest third quarters on record for project completion.
The figure was 22% of the 2,227 MW of wind capacity energized in the third quarter of 2021, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data. No other third quarter recorded lower wind capacity additions since at least 2015, the first year of the dataset.
Mitsubishi Power plans to supply three utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the southeastern U.S.
Totaling 150 MW/600 MWh, the BESS projects will be co-located with three Origis Energy photovoltaic solar facilities. Mitsubishi Power said the projects will likely come online in the next two years.
