As scientists and explorers throughout history have seen, there is no better place to study evolution than on islands. An hour from the Gulf of Mexico, a 30,000-acre farm in South Texas is helping The Home Depot decrease its carbon emissions while providing some nice economic benefits to the surrounding community. The Home Depot has partnered with EDP Renewables North America to purchase wind energy from the Los Mirasoles Wind Farm in McAllen, Texas.

Renewable energy dominated new U.S. electrical generation put into
service during 2016, according to the latest issue of the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission's (FERC) monthly "Energy Infrastructure Update,”
released last week with data through Dec. 31, 2016.

A global transition away from oil and gas is well underway as booming renewable energy sources and electric cars portend major changes for the industry.

This may come as a surprise to most people: utilities don’t have real-time information about their customers’ electricity usage. When someone adds solar to their home or business, all the utility can see is that the customer’s electricity usage drops; they can’t see how much energy a rooftop solar system offsets energy use.

(Mon, 06 Feb 2017) There are currently 449 operating nuclear reactors in 31 countries, with a total installed generating capacity of more than 390,000 megawatts (MW), based on data from the International Atomic Energy Agency. Nuclear power plants differ in various ways including reactor types, vessel containments, cooling methods, and dispatch purposes.

ABB will provide an innovative microgrid, combining battery and flywheel based storage technologies, designed to test scalability and improve power stability for around 300,000 people in Anchorage, Alaska.
