A consortium consisting of Siemens, steel maker Voestalpine and hydropower firm Verbund as well as research-partners K1-MET and ECN has been awarded a contract to build an electrolysis plant in Linz, Austria to make green hydrogen more suitable for industrial use.

(Wed, 08 Feb 2017) Coal production in the United States totaled 739 million short tons (MMst) in 2016, an 18% decline from 2015 and the lowest level of coal production since 1978. For everyone else (including me until I looked up the word) a Pigovian tax is a tax levied on an undesirable market activity to offset the negative effects of said activity. The carbon tax is a Pigovian tax — hence the addition of this obscure word to our Renewable Energy World vocabulary.
On Jan. 19, the IRS released Revenue Procedure 2017-19 (Rev. Proc.) providing a safe harbor for certain alternative energy sales contracts with federal agencies to be treated as service contracts under Section 7701(e)(3).
