The Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee approved Senate Bill 100, historic legislation to transition California to 100 percent clean electricity by 2045, sending it to the full Assembly for a vote. The vote could have been influenced by the more than 38,000 messages and signatures in support of the legislation from a range of stakeholders, including health and environmental advocates, clean energy industries, business communities, and environmental justice organizations.
Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAC) revealed that in May 2018, 96,000 electric vehicles (pure electrics and hybrids combined, comprising what the Chinese government and media refer to as “new energy vehicles”) rolled off assembly lines, while 102,000 units were sold, increases of 85.6 percent and 125.6 percent, respectively, over the same period last year.
According to data released by the National Energy Administration of China, the country added wind power grid-connected capacity of 3.94 GW during the first quarter of this year, a year-over-year increase of 12 percent. The country’s average wind curtailment rate had decreased to 8.5 percent as of the end of the quarter, down 8 percentage points from a year earlier.
