Utilities across the country are increasingly taking a proactive role on initiatives to advance clean energy and grid modernization. But to hear a utility CEO like Kipp focus unequivocally on one of the most critical drivers for the growth of solar and storage was striking — and yet another sign of the sector’s ongoing transformation.

(Tue, 06 Nov 2018) U.S. residential heating oil and propane prices at the start of the 2018–2019 winter heating season were 23% and 4% higher, respectively, than at the start of the last heating season. According to statistics released by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, factories across the country produced 143,000 tons of polycrystalline silicon during the first half of this year, a year-over-year increase of 24 percent. Silicon chips manufactured soared to 50 GW during the same period, up 38.9 percent, of which, 52.7 percent were monocrystalline. Battery chips coming off production lines totaled 39 GW, up 21.9, of which, 41 percent were monocrystalline.

From August to September this year, the Ningxia Office of the Northwest China Energy Regulatory Bureau of the China National Energy Administration wanted to better understand the issues facing local solar and wind producers in the region, especially concerning implementation of renewable energy subsidies for power generation.
