A big-time fossil fuels player is jumping into the energy transition in a bolder, more focused way.

With the increase in Electric Vehicles’ availability in Midwest states, it is time to acknowledge the opportunities for charging EVs at MISO, the regional grid operator. MISO has an established transmission planning process for incorporating future industry trends, including EV growth. The regional grid operator estimates both electrification and EVs add almost 50% to the annual energy and peak demand forecasts in the next 20 years.

The technology group Wärtsilä announced today that it will supply its energy storage technology for two 200-MW projects in southern Texas, USA. The megawatt-hour rating of the facilities was not available at press time.

EV Connect, a California-based software-as-a-service company, announced that it is collaborating with the Indiana-based Battery Innovation Center (BIC) and Energy Systems Network (ESN) to deploy Indiana’s first large-scale Vehicle-to-Grid capable charging system to support school bus fleet, HD truck, and other customer segment applications.

Salzgitter AG, subsidiary Avacon and Linde have announced commissioning of the “Wind Hydrogen Salzgitter – WindH2” project, which will use wind energy to produce hydrogen.

This project is the only one of its kind in Germany, according to the companies.

Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) in Colombia will hold a public auction to sell 2 million certificates of carbon credits from three hydroelectric plants and one wind farm.
