WASHINGTON, May 13 (Reuters) - The United States is
increasingly concerned about the potential for an economic and
political meltdown in Venezuela, spurred by fears of a debt
default, growing street protests and deterioration of its vital
oil sector, U.S. intelligence officials said on Friday.

ORANJESTAD, May 13 (Reuters) - The Citgo Petroleum refining
unit of Venezuela's state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA
has reached a deal to lease and restart an idled
235,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Aruba, the government of the
Caribbean island said on Friday.

May 13 (Reuters) - U.S. natural gas speculators boosted net
long positions for the first week in three, betting prices will
rise as production eases and demand picks up, absorbing some of
the record amount of fuel left in inventories after a warm
winter.

When electricity rates went up last month for 1.4 million customers of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers, about $150 million of the rate increase was earmarked for a novel energy supply that officials hope will become more commonplace.
