Fossil fuels still dominate U.S. energy consumption despite recent market share decline

(Fri, 01 Jul 2016) Three fossil fuels—petroleum, natural gas, and coal—have provided more than 80% of total U.S. energy consumption for more than 100 years. In 2015, fossil fuels made up 81.5% of total U.S. energy consumption, the lowest fossil fuel share in the past century. In EIA's <em>Annual Energy Outlook 2016</em> Reference case projections, which reflect current laws and policies, that percentage declines to 76.6% by 2040.

UPDATE 2-Petroperu fined, president ousted over oil spills in Amazon

LIMA, June 30 (Reuters) - The Peruvian government dismissed
the head of Petroperu, German Velasquez, and fined the
state-owned energy company about $3.5 million after the third
oil spill in the Amazon this year from its four-decades-old
pipeline.

BHP says will fight $6 bln claim over Samarco disaster

SYDNEY, July 1 (Reuters) - BHP Billiton on
Friday said it would appeal against the decision by a Brazilian
court to reinstate a $6 billion public civil claim over last
year's Samarco iron ore mine disaster.

CORRECTED-UPDATE 1-Petroperu head ousted over oil spills in Amazon- minister

LIMA, June 30 (Reuters) - The head of Petroperu,
German Velasquez, was dismissed following the third oil spill in
the Amazon this year from the state-owned energy company's
four-decades-old pipeline, the government said on Thursday.
