LAUNCESTON, Australia, Aug 17 (Reuters) - While a record
loss is certain to grab media headlines, the real story about
BHP Billiton is far more sanguine as the company tries
to prove that boring is better.

CARACAS, Aug 16 (Reuters) - President Nicolas Maduro said on
Tuesday that Venezuela had struck $4.5 billion in mining deals
with foreign and domestic companies, part of plan to lift the
OPEC nation's economy out of a deep recession causing food
shortages and social unrest.

successful outcome from producer talks to rein in ballooning
oversupply.

CARACAS, Aug 16 (Reuters) - President Nicolas Maduro said on
Tuesday that Venezuela had signed $4.5 billion in mining deals
for investment in the South American country's southern mineral
belt, but did not say who the deals were with or for what
projects.

According to a presidential order issued Aug. 12 by the Myanmar government, a commission will form to examine the 6,000-MW Myitsone hydropower project proposed for Kachin, Mynamar. Locally published reports indicate when complete, Yunnan China would receive much of the energy from the facility under the project’s original agreement.

Medvedev has postponed the privatisation of mid-sized oil
producer Bashneft, his spokeswoman said on Tuesday, a
surprise move she said was approved by President Vladimir Putin.

LONDON, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Britain's top shares index
slipped from a 14-month high on Tuesday as higher-than-expected
UK inflation data weighed on the market.
