MANILA, Aug 30 (Reuters) - China will be the "loser" if it
does not recognise an international court ruling against its
territorial claims in the South China Sea, Philippine Foreign
Minister Perfecto Yasay said on Tuesday.

Coal consumption by U.S. educational institutions has declined by 64% since 2008

(Tue, 30 Aug 2016) Coal consumption by educational institutions such as colleges and universities in the United States fell from 2 million short tons in 2008 to 700,000 short tons in 2015. Consumption declined in each of the 57 institutions that used coal in 2008, with 20 of these institutions no longer using coal at all. Many of these institutions participate in the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, a program aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

UPDATE 4-Samarco dam failed due to poor drainage and design -investigation

BELO HORIZONTE/RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 29 (Reuters) - The deadly
collapse of a tailings dam last November at the Samarco mine,
owned by Vale SA and BHP Billiton, was caused
by drainage and design flaws, a report into Brazil's worst-ever
environmental disaster showed on Monday.

Oil prices rise as dollar retreats from two-week high

SINGAPORE, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Oil futures edged up on
Tuesday as the U.S. dollar erased earlier gains, but doubts that
producers would be able to agree to an output freeze continued
to drag on prices.

TOKYO, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Japan's top oil refiner by sales,
JX Holdings, and third-ranked TonenGeneral Sekiyu
are set to finalise details on Wednesday for a new
merged company to be formed in April 2017.

UPDATE 1-Ritchie Bros to buy U.S. e-commerce site IronPlanet for $758 mln

Aug 29 (Reuters) - Canadian industrial auctioneer Ritchie
Bros Auctioneers Inc said it will buy IronPlanet, a
privately held U.S. e-commerce site for used equipment, for
about $758.5 million, as it looks to diversify its portfolio.
