Red Cross makes emergency appeal for Haiti

ZURICH, Oct 7 (Reuters) - The Red Cross has launched an
emergency appeal to provide immediate relief to 50,000 Haitians
in the aftermath of the strongest hurricane to hit the Caribbean
since 2007.

PARIS, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Total has agreed to sell
its speciality chemicals business Atotech to private equity firm
Carlyle Group for $3.2 billion, part of a $10 billion asset sale
programme the French oil firm hopes to complete by the end of
2017.

UK's FTSE 100 advances towards record high as pound drops

LONDON, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Britain's top shares index
advanced early on Friday to trade near a record high, with
concerns about a further fall in the sterling after a plunge to
a 31-year low seen as helping internationally-exposed stocks.

French spot power price for Monday delivery hits 100 euros/MWh

PARIS, Oct 7 (Reuters) - France's spot power price for
Monday delivery jumped by 52 euros early on Friday to
hit 100 euros ($111) per megawatt hour (MWh), its highest since
February 2012, due to French nuclear power supply concerns and
strong demand forecast due to cold weather.

Australia to launch independent review into state-wide blackout

SYDNEY, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Australia will conduct an
independent review into a blackout last week across South
Australia state, although a meeting between state and federal
energy ministers failed to resolve their differences over
renewable energy targets.

Total sells Atotech speciality chemical arm to Carlyle for $3.2 bln

PARIS, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Total has agreed to sell
its speciality chemicals arm Atotech for $3.2 billion to private
equity firm Carlyle Group, part of a programme under which the
French oil company hopes to divest $10 billion worth of non-core
assets by 2017.
