Distributed energy developers, utilities, regulators, and key stakeholders are preparing to come together in San Diego, California on February 6th to take on the critical issue of interconnection at the GridTECH Connect Forum.

Renewable Properties, a developer and investor in small-scale utility and community solar projects, signed power purchase agreements for five projects with Pacific Gas and Electric that will serve disadvantaged communities.

Totaling nearly 30 MW, the five solar projects are part of California’s Disadvantaged Communities (DAC) and Community Solar Green Tariff (CS-GT) programs.

A piece of solar safety equipment that was the subject of a fight over patent rights has emerged from the dust-up with both sides claiming at least partial victory.

The fight was over rapid shutdown technology, a safety function for rooftop mounted solar photovoltaic systems that is designed to reduce the risk of electrical shock to emergency responders. Rapid shutdown is widely mandated by building codes and regulatory bodies around the U.S.

A microgrid has been placed into service in the town of Hot Springs, North Carolina that will be able to power the entire town during an outage.

The Hot Springs microgrid consists of a 2 MW (AC) solar facility and a 4.4 MW lithium-based battery storage facility.

PORTLAND, Mane (AP) — Maine utility regulators on Tuesday gave final approval to a wind power project that would provide enough electricity for at least 450,000 New England homes along with construction of a new transmission corridor in northern Maine to get the electricity to the regional power grid.

Electric vehicle charging network ChargePoint is teaming up with energy storage solutions provider Stem to pair EV charging with battery storage along highway corridors.

The companies said they hope to lower operating costs, improve resiliency, and help achieve sustainability goals by leveraging EV charging and energy storage with AI-drive energy management software.

Prices for solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) continued their push higher to end 2022, a sign that an already tight North American offtake market was still hampered by supply chain constraints and trade disputes.

Percepto, an autonomous inspection and monitoring solution provider, said that Transport Canada has approved Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to operate a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone without a visual observer on site. Approval is thought to be a first in Canada and will take place at McConnell Lake Control Dam.

Amazon continued its renewable energy buying spree in 2022, cementing the company yet again as the global leader in clean energy procurement.

The company said its renewable energy portfolio grew by 8.3 GW in 2022 through 133 new projects in 11 countries. The portfolio now totals more than 20 GW— enough to generate the amount of energy to power 5.3 million U.S. homes.

Duke Energy spends twice as much money fueling and upkeeping its six North Carolina coal plants — costs passed on to ratepayers — than if it replaced them with brand new solar farms, a report issued today shows.
