BHUBANESWAR, India, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The death toll in an
Indian coal mine collapse rose to 16 on Saturday and could rise
further, officials said, as some people are still feared trapped
at a coalfield run by state-owned Coal India Limited.

ABUJA, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Nigeria's government will seek a
lasting peace settlement with militants in the oil-producing
southern Niger Delta region in 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari
said in a New Year's message on Saturday.

Dec 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. oil rig count ended 2016 just
below year-ago levels as drillers added rigs this week as part

market over two years.
Drillers added two oil rigs in the week to Dec. 30, bringing
the total count up to 525, the most since December 2015 and 11
shy of the 536 rigs seen at the end of 2015, energy services
firm Baker Hughes Inc said on Friday.

Macquarie Group Ltd. bought a 50 percent stake in the Race Bank offshore wind farm being developed in the U.K. North Sea from Dong Energy A/S for 1.6 billion pounds ($2 billion).

Ohio Governor John Kasich rejected a bill to extend a freeze on a law that requires utilities in the state to buy more electricity from renewable sources including wind and solar power.
