Energy Update
(Thu, 19 Mar 2026) We have released the first set of housing characteristics data tables for the 2024 Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) . These data include preliminary estimates on the structural and geographic characteristics of homes, types of electronics and appliances used within them, lighting characteristics, demographic characteristics, square footage, and household energy insecurity, as well as key estimates for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
(Wed, 18 Mar 2026) We provide contractor reports that characterize residential technology and fuel switching costs for major end-use equipment, including space heating, water heating, cooking, and clothes drying. We use these reports to develop modeling assumptions to inform our <em>Annual Energy Outlook</em> buildings projections.
