Washington DC – According to a review by the SUN DAY Campaign of data recently released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), renewable energy sources (i.e., biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, wind) dominated new U.S. electrical generating capacity additions and increased their contribution to the nation’s electrical production in the first half of 2021.

Vestas, a global manufacturer and installer of wind turbines, has received orders for 50 megawatts from the Project Joint Venture between V-Ridium Power Group and KGAL in Poland.

Vestas will supply and install turbines at the 15 MW Podlasek and 35 MW Wólka Dobryńska projects, both with anticipated commissioning by the end of 2022.

Installation of the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm — a 48 MW project off the coast of Aberdeenshire, Scotland — has been completed.

Jigar Shah, the director of the Loan Programs Office of the U.S. Dept. of Energy, and a longtime renewable energy entrepreneur, launched a discussion earlier this month about the acceptance of fossil fuel industry professionals in the advanced energy economy. 

Crowley Maritime Corporation and Massachusetts Maritime Academy are creating a training and workforce development program to support the offshore wind energy industry in New England.

The program, certified by the Global Wind Organisation, aims to facilitate the growth of the offshore wind workforce and provide sea safety and survival instruction.

With the long-anticipated approval of its new Statewide Electric Storage Program, Connecticut has just leapfrogged the rest of New England to become the new regional leader in distributed battery storage program development.

Chinese manufacturer MingYang Smart Energy has unveiled a 264-meter tall, 16-megawatt capacity offshore wind turbine.

The MySE 16.0-242 becomes the world’s largest hybrid drive wind turbine with a 242-meter diameter rotor, 118-meter long blades, and 4,600 m2 swept area. The model is capable of generating 80,000 MWh of electricity every year, enough to power more than 20,000 households.
