MILAN, Nov 30 (Reuters) - European shares opened lower on Monday, led by BHP Billiton after news Brazil could seek damages for the burst of a dam, while Delta Lloyd slumped on capital raising plans.
ALMATY, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan will keep its floating exchange rate after allowing its tenge currency to slide in line with oil prices and ordering bloated state holdings and companies to slim down, its president said on Monday.
These are bleak times across much of the nation's "oil patch." Layoffs are spreading and rigs are being laid up. One state -- Alaska -- is defying the trend, at least for now.
