Last summer saw the second consecutive August my home state of California has faced a strained electric grid and associated grid outages. Climate change-induced heat waves are once again increasing demand for electricity just as the impacts of wildfires, drought and a diminished snowpack have coalesced to reduce electricity supplies and disrupt critical transmission and distribution systems.

The Clean Energy States Alliance recently released a new report that looks at the development of green hydrogen (H2) from offshore wind. Georgena Terry chatted with report author Val Stori to glean some of the highlights from the report.

PJM is pursuing generator interconnection reforms to file at FERC in early 2022. PJM had three stakeholder meetings in October alone. In addition to learning from MISO’s experience, PJM should work with its transmission owners to build substations where renewables connect to the transmission grid.
